Oregon Coast & Redwoods 2024

June 5rd - 9th

The Oregon Coast is one of the most dramatic and picturesque coastlines in the world. Rolling surf with huge exploding waves, rugged headlands, dramatic sunrises and sunsets, and monumental sea stacks characterize this coastal landscape. Combine that with the majestic giant redwoods of Northern California and this photography experience will immerse you in locations where you will create your own award-winning images.

Join Bob Copeland and Jason Kinch as they guide passionate photographers in the exploration and discovery of this breathtaking and ruggedly beautiful coastline. Together Bob and Jason have more than 80 years of professional photographic experience and both have a deep knowledge of the Oregon and Northern California Coastal regions we'll be exploring. We will be chasing good light as we explore spectacular secluded coves, picturesque lighthouses, wide beaches where dramatic sea stacks rise up out of sand and surf, and groves of towering giant redwoods. Our pace will be relaxed yet focused, always factoring in weather and light while learning to work with what Mother Nature presents us at the moment for the best possible opportunity to create beautiful images.

No matter your photographic expertise our goal is to provide an unpretentious, interactive, and enjoyable experience where you will hone camera skills along with a specific emphasis on producing powerful and compelling compositions in the company of other like-minded photographers and artists. Join us for a photography experience that will inspire and generate lasting memories.

We invite you along to share our vision and our passion for excellence... an experience to remember.

What is the difficulty of this course?

All locations will involve some amount of walking over uneven surfaces of dirt, gravel, and of course sandy beaches. • We will meet at 2 pm in the lobby of our hotel in Bandon, Oregon

We’ll gather to introduce ourselves, give an overview of the Workshop, and discuss in more detail some of the locations we’ll be exploring and photographing, communicate start times for sunrise/morning shoots and sunset/blue hour. We'll conclude with a Q&A. We'll then get settled in our hotel rooms before heading out for an evening shoot. A group dinner will follow. Weather and light will dictate our exact itinerary each day

  • Day 2

    • Sunrise at Coquille River Lighthouse, crashing surf at Shore Acres, sunset at Bandon Beach, group dinner in Bandon

  • Day 3

    • Sunrise shoot at Cape Blanco lighthouse, we'll move south to Brookings, Oregon with numerous stops at Pistol River and through the Sam Boardman Scenic Corridor, sunset at Secret Beach, and group dinner in Brookings.

  • Day 4

    • We will rise early for the drive to the redwood groves of Jedidiah Smith and Del Notre where we’ll spend the day among the blooming rhododendrons and giant trees, return to Brookings and have group dinner.

  • What About Weather

    • If it’s raining, we’ll be out shooting. If it’s windy and stormy, we’ll be out shooting. Dramatic weather often makes for dramatic images. The only time we will not be out shooting is if it is determined that conditions are unsafe or considered by Bob or Jason to be un-shootable. Participants, of course, will always be free to remain in their hotel room to rest or edit images.
